Rag Rug Basics with Heather Quinones, Thursday April 14, 2011, 11am – 3pm.  $50, $45 for PAA members.  Want another use for those old t-shirts?  This class will teach you how to make coasters and runners using braiding and tying techniques used to make rag rugs.  You will be able to take these techniques and create a larger rug at home.  All materials are included in the cost.  Students are welcome to bring their own t-shirts to use during class. A weekend of fiber-related activities held throughout the Village of Peninsula.

A family-friendly, open-to-the-public event, spread out on street corners, lawns, patios, business parking lots, and train cars! Visit the Peninsula Town Hall and the GAR Hall for indoor workshops and displays. Support local vendors, farmers, crafters & artists!
Learn about all the fiber related arts; contemporary fiber art techniques, the history of fiber, and the local artists who produce these fine art pieces. Introductory level workshops & demonstrations for children, teens, and adults, as well as in-depth advanced training, workshops and techniques for the skilled & professional fiber artist.

Lots of kids activities, demonstrations & learning events. We’ll have visiting alpacas, llamas, sheep, goats, and angora rabbits (exotic and everyday animals) so children can touch, feel and view “fiber in the raw.” Learn to to transform hair, fur & fiber into yarn, then into clothing, fine art, and home accessories. Demonstrations throughout the village including skirting a fleece, spinning, weaving, dyeing, felting, basketry, and quilting.

Fiber Art Instruction on a Floor Loom: As always, we are interested in additional “private” or “group” instruction on various weaving techniques, from beginning to advanced, to fiber enthusiasts in the Northeast Ohio area. Let us know of your needs. email Looms are available for set-up in your home at no rental charge, provided that our educational services (set-up and/or instruction) are purchased at our normal rates starting at 15.00 per hour.

Weaving without a loom with Carol Adams, Saturdays 11-2.  Select any 6 weeks to complete one course. Learn coiling, twining, macramé, braiding, card weaving, frame loom weaving, artistic crochet, artistic knitting, sprang, etc. These processes will teach dexterity, pattern, repetition, color, texture, shape, design, and the digital aspects of crossing one thread with one thread.  Use fibers supplied and build their own frame loom at a materials fee $15.00. $30.00, $28.00 per session for PAA members – contact Carol at 330-657-2681  email registration form

Beginning Weaving with Carol Adams: Weaving 1, on Saturdays from 11-2. Or by arrangement as well!  Come and learn how to calculate your warp, dress the loom, and weave a sampler, using many different types of 4-harness weaves. From there, the sky is the limit! Spinning Classes with Cris Welsh – Learn this ancient and relaxing craft. You can learn to make yarn suitable for knitting, crochet, weaving, embroidering – whatever your hobby or passion. Cris Welch will teach you to spin on a spindle or a wheel – your choice. This class is 2 hours, and can be scheduled at your convenience. The fee is $35, or $31 for PAA members. Fiber CaféPAA Fiber Café meetings: 10 am, January 22, 2011, meets every forth Saturday.  Bring your current projects!  Plan upcoming events and classes, and meet fellow fiber artists.  No charge, and we’ll make the coffee!   There are many exciting plans in the works, so please come and share your fiber skills with other fiber arts enthusiasts.
